Friday the 13th was not unlucky for Lamar University baseball coach Jim Gilligan, who notched his 1,300th career win in Lamar's opener at Vincent-Beck Stadium. Fittingly, Lamar and New Mexico State combined for 13 runs, with the Cardinals scoring the final one on catcher Brandon Provost's RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning that broke a tie to hand Lamar a 7-6 victory.
